Home invasion suspect charged with sexual assault in Pr. George’s Co.

WASHINGTON – A man suspected in two Maryland home invasion robberies, has been charged with a third home invasion and sexual assault that occurred in Temple Hills.

Kevin Darnell Ray, a registered sex offender of the 12400 block of Gable Lane in Fort Washington, Md. was arrested in Kitty Hawk, N.C. Saturday morning, police say.

Ray, 33, is being held on charges of rape, assault, armed carjacking, burglary, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, theft and other charges.

Prince George’s County Police identified Ray as the suspect in the Jan. 13 Temple Hills assault after working closely with detectives from Montgomery County Police.

The third incident occurred in the 2500 block of Berkley Street when the suspect followed the victim back to her house after she had gone out to warm up her car.

The suspect took out a handgun and tied up the occupants of the house, took the victim into a separate room and sexually assaulted her.

After removing several items from the home, the suspect then took the victim’s car and left.

The car was later found in Temple Hills.

Montgomery County Police say Ray also used a handgun on Jan. 10 when he approached a woman in her garage on the 2900 block of McMahon Road in Wheaton and demanded her money, car keys, debit cards and pin numbers.

Ray then fled in the victim’s car, which was recovered nearby, and used her debit cards at several locations.

The next day, Jan. 11, police say Ray accosted a housekeeper at the front door of a home on the 9200 block of Bardon Road in Bethesda shortly after 7:30 a.m.

Threatening with a handgun, police say Ray forced entry into the home, tied up the housekeeper, the homeowner and the homeowner’s teenage son before sexually assaulting the housekeeper.

Ray then stole a debit card and the housekeeper’s car keys before fleeing the housekeeper’s car.

The housekeeper was treated and released from a hospital. The other two victims were not injured, police say.

Montgomery County Police detectives, with the help of tips and a picture of Ray taken while he made a purchase with one of the stolen debit cards, located Ray in North Carolina where U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement arrested him.

Ray is being held in Dare County, N.C., awaiting an extradition hearing.
