African lion being moved from Va. zoo to Fla

Wednesday - 1/11/2012, 6:07am  ET

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A young male African lion at the Virginia Zoo is moving to a new home.

Zoo officials say the lion will be shipped from Norfolk on Thursday to Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Fla.

The male was among a litter of four cubs born at the zoo in May 2009. Two other male cubs were previously sent to the Pittsburgh Zoo and a female went to a zoo in Knoxville, Tenn.

Virginia Zoo assistant director Roger Sweeney says the moves will enable the cubs' parents to breed again.
