Burglary spree strikes Stafford County churches

WASHINGTON – Stafford County sheriff’s officials are asking for help to solve a spate of burglaries at three county churches.

Sheriff’s officials say the most recent break-in occurred early Tuesday morning at Ebenezer United Methodist Church at 161 Embrey Mill Road in Stafford. Officials say a window and door were broken, and the suspect or suspects stole a safe containing gift cards.

The burglary follows the thefts of a flat-screen television, a monitor and cash from the North Stafford Church of Christ on Shelton Shop Road, and the thefts of four flat-screen TVs, four computers and a camera from Ramoth Baptist Church on Ramoth Church Road.

Authorities think the Church of Christ theft happened between Jan. 1 and Jan. 3, and the Ramoth Baptist theft happened between the evening of Jan. 3 and early morning of Jan. 4.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the sheriff’s office at 540-568-4400, the Stafford County Crime Solvers at 540-659-2020 or to send a text to “Stafford” plus the tip to CRIMES (274637). Information leading to an arrest or indictment may lead to an award.
