ESSEX, Md. - Baltimore County fire officials say a 63-year-old woman and a 41-year-old woman believed to be her daughter are dead after a fire in an Essex rowhouse.
Fire crews were called to the house on Arncliffe Road about 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Fire Department spokesman Jay Ringgold says firefighters had some difficulty getting through the belongings in the two-story house, but they found the two women upstairs. Both were taken to hospitals where they were pronounced dead.
Officials identified the victims Tuesday as Carolyn Himmelheber and Stacy Himmelheber. The Baltimore Sun reports that neighbors said the victims were mother and daughter.
Fire officials say the home had smoke detectors but that they did not go off. The cause of the blaze, which did $25,000 in damage, is still under investigation.
