ALEXANDRIA - To say BRAC has raised concerns about traffic backups in Alexandria is truly an understatement.
Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., predicts the move of thousands of Defense Department jobs from Crystal City (near plenty of transit options) to Alexandria's Mark Center (where public transportation is scarce) would create a traffic catastrophe.
To combat the lack of public transportation, DOD has been quietly setting up and rerouting bus routes to directly serve the Mark Center. Now, another new bus line could be coming.
This week, Metro is expected to give preliminary approval to a plan that would establish enhanced bus service between the West Falls Church rail station and the Mark Transit Center.
A rider who had just jumped off a bus at the Mark Transit Center Monday is pleased with the amount of bus service being offered to the location.
"So far so good. I was moved from Crystal City, but it takes about 20 minutes on average to get here (from the Springfield Metro Station)," he says. "It is working."
