Fairfax seeks input as it hires new county exec

Saturday - 1/7/2012, 7:26am  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) - Fairfax County is seeking public input as it prepares to hire a new county executive to replace retiring Anthony Griffin.

Supervisor John Cook is hosting a town hall meeting Monday night in Burke that will include a panel discussion and question-and-answer session. The county is also taking public comment through an online survey that will be available through Jan. 16.

The county board will soon begin a national search for a new county executive, who oversees day-to-day operations and prepares the county's annual budget of more than $3 billion.

Griffin is retiring in April after 12 years as the county's appointed executive. The county of more than 1 million residents routinely ranks as one of the wealthiest in the nation.
