BALTIMORE - Baltimore police say an 84-year-old woman found dead by firefighters battling a blaze in her home had been stabbed.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Friday fire investigators had not found anything suspicious about the fire at the home on Biddle Street a day earlier. But he says an autopsy conducted Friday found multiple stab wounds on the body of Mary Hines. Guglielmi says Hines was also burned badly. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Guglielmi says no accelerants that might have been used to start a fire were found on the scene.
City school officials say Hines began teaching in 1948 and retired in 1981 as an elementary school principal.
