Metro restoring normal service after cracked rails found

WASHINGTON – Cracked rails, blamed on the cold weather, caused delays Wednesday morning on Metro’s Blue, Yellow and Red lines.

Normal service has been restored on the Yellow and Blue lines.

The transit agency says the cracked rail on the Yellow and Blue lines was near the Pentagon station.

Through the morning commuting hours, Metro’s Yellow Line ran trains on a single track between Pentagon City and L’Enfant Plaza. The Blue Line ran trains on a single track between Pentagon City and Arlington Cemetery.

On the Red Line, Metro trains are running on a single track between Fort Totten and Takoma because of a cracked rail. No delays are reported.

On the Green Line, a disabled train at Prince George’s Plaza forced trains to single track between West Hyattsville and College Park. The problem has been resolved.
