Md. couple helps wounded vet travel for holidays

LINTHICUM, Md. - A Baltimore County couple helped a wounded veteran and his fiancée travel home for the holidays.

Marine Sgt. Michael Frazier lost both legs last spring in Afghanistan, when he stepped on an improvised explosive device. He met Monica Montes, a Navy corpsman, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and when they got engaged a few weeks ago, she wanted to introduce him to her family in Florida.

Flying commercially can be tough for wounded veterans, but Veterans Airlift Command helps match their requests with a network of 2,000 aircraft owners and pilots who can help.

Stephanie and Erwin Greenberg of Glyndon volunteered to fly Frazier and Montes to Florida for the holidays on their company plane Wednesday. Frazier says the Greenbergs are showing him the true meaning of patriotism.
