PALMYRA, Va. - A former Charlottesville police officer is facing more charges stemming from the embezzlement of money from a church where he formerly served as pastor.
Wilbert Davis Brassfield is scheduled to stand trial Dec. 20 on five embezzlement counts.
The 48-year-old Palmyra resident originally was charged with three counts. The Daily Progress ( http://bit.ly/V2hfjp) says prosecutors have added two new counts.
Brassfield is accused of embezzling more than $10,000 from Courts of Praise Christian Fellowship in Fluvanna. He served as pastor for the church until 2010. It has since closed.
Brassfield pleaded not guilty Friday in Fluvanna County Circuit Court.
He was terminated from his position as a school resource officer for the Charlottesville Police Department after he was charged.
