Balto. menorah lighting marks first night of Hanukkah

Tuesday - 12/20/2011, 6:32am  ET

BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore will mark the first night of Hanukkah with the lighting of a giant menorah at a park near the Inner Harbor.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will participate in the lighting of the menorah billed as the city's tallest on Tuesday evening. The eight-day Jewish festival of lights commemorates the rededication of the Temple by the Maccabees after their victory over the Syrians.

A parade of cars to McKeldin Square will start at Bnos Yisrael on Park Heights Avenue. The event is sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch of Downtown Baltimore. There will be live music, latkes, jelly doughnuts and hot drinks.
