FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - An investigation into the fatal shooting of a teenager by two Stafford deputies last month has concluded the deadly force was justified.
In a joint statement issued Friday, the commonwealth attorneys for Stafford and Fauquier (faw-KEER') counties suggest that 17-year-old Even Newsom committed what they described as "suicide by police."
Newsom was killed at his home in Fauquier County near the Stafford County line on Nov. 2. Deputies went there in response to an abandoned car and an assault.
The Free Lance-Star ( http://bit.ly/VFYTQH) reports that the prosecutors said Newsom attacked a Stafford deputy with a knife. That deputy and another then opened fire.
The investigation concluded they responded to an "imminent attempt to kill" or physically harm the deputies.
