NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A 41-year-old Suffolk woman has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for altering records to conceal Medicaid fraud by her boss.

State and federal authorities said Monday that U.S. District Judge Robert Doumar also ordered Lynette Smith to serve three years of probation.

Smith pleaded guilty in July. According to court documents, Smith was a staffing manager for A Caring Hand Home Health Care Services in Suffolk. The company was owned by Janice W. Holland, who submitted $630,000 in bogus claims to the Virginia Medicaid program. Smith and Holland met with other staff members several times and directed them to falsify records.

Holland has pleaded guilty to health care fraud, alteration of records and aggravated identity theft. She will be sentenced Jan. 22.
