Metro and Pr. George's police out in force Wednesday evening

Wednesday - 6/29/2011, 4:38pm  ET

WASHINGTON - Metro police are partnering with Prince George's County police in a show of force Wednesday evening.

The two agencies are conducting a major, high-visibility security exercise known as "Blue Tide."

The show of force will be conducted between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. around Metro stations in Prince George's County.

Metro launched Blue TIDE (Terrorism Identification and Deterrence Effort) earlier this year aimed at deterring terrorist activity in the Metro system.

Metro reminds riders of the following:

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Report suspicious behavior, unusual activity, unattended items, smoke or odd odors to a uniformed Metro employee or call the Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
  • Use the emergency call boxes on station platforms and on all Metrorail cars to call Metro personnel for assistance, if needed.
