CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The American Red Cross will offer free ice cream next month to blood donors in the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region.
The Red Cross says blood supplies are critically low and donor turnout tends to drop after the end of the school year. So it's hoping to lure in donors with coupons to sponsoring ice cream vendors.
Donor Resources director Lisa Hart says one-fourth of donations in the region come from high school and college blood drives.
The coupon offer is good in 31 of West Virginia 55 counties. It also applies to some counties served by the Greater Alleghenies Region in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
