RICHMOND, Va. - Twelve community and economic development projects in Virginia will receive nearly $9 million in funding.
Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the funding Tuesday. It comes from the federal Community Development Block Grant program and is administered by the state Department of Housing and Community Development.
The projects include downtown and economic revitalization, health care, housing, and water service and wastewater treatment.
Cities included in the funding are Blackstone, Buena Vista, Lexington, Marion, Rich Creek, Smithfield, South Boston, Tazewell, and Waynesboro. Wise County received funding for two sewer projects and Buchanan County received funding for a regional water project.
