Baltimore to host Wizards for first time since ’99

BALTIMORE (AP) – The Washington Wizards are playing basketball in Baltimore for the first time in more than a decade.

The Washington Wizards will play the New York Knicks Thursday evening at the inaugural Baltimore Basketball Classic at the Baltimore Arena. The 2013-2014 season marks 50 years since the Wizards, then called the Baltimore Bullets, moved to the city from Chicago, where they were known as the Zephyrs.

The team relocated to Landover, Md., before the 1973-74 season. They later changed their name to the Washington Bullets and became the Wizards in 1997.

This is the Wizards’ first time playing in Baltimore since hosting a preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1999.
