EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Giants continued their roster purge after missing the playoffs, cutting halfback Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty who both battled injuries and had big salaries. Bradshaw was to earn $4.25 million and became expendable with the play of rookie David Wilson. Canty was to earn $6.5 million next season.
DENVER (AP) -- Embarrassed Colorado star first baseman Todd Helton has apologized to his family, the team and community after his arrest early this morning on drunk and careless driving charges. Police say Helton was picked up after someone called police to report a drunken driver. They say Helton's blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit but they haven't released the number.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A pair of 30-win teams square off tonight as Oklahoma City plays host to Golden State to highlight the NBA schedule. The Thunder top the Northwest Division with a record of 36-12, while the Warriors are three games back of the first place Clippers in the Pacific Division with a record of 30-18.
FT. WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Fifth-ranked Kansas is back in action tonight trying to rebound from having their 18-game winning streak snapped Saturday at home, and odds look pretty good for the Jayhawks to start another winning run. Kansas travels to TCU trying to improve on its 19-2 mark. The Horned Frogs are 9-12 and 0-and-8 in Big 12 play.
DOHA, Qatar (AP) -- Venus Williams has been forced to withdraw from next week's Qatar (GUH'-tur) Open. She continues to suffer from a lower back injury. The 23rd-ranked Williams has been hampered by back problems since the Australian Open, where she lost in the third round.
