Forbath holds off Hocker as Redskins make cuts

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Incumbent kicker Kai Forbath has held off draft pick Zach Hocker, and undrafted rookie Silas Redd has claimed the final running back spot as the Washington Redskins trimmed their roster to 53 heading into the first week of the regular season.

The Redskins on Saturday placed linebacker Darryl Sharpton and nose tackle Chris Neild on injured reserve. They also will start the season with defensive end Stephen Bowen and receiver Leonard Hankerson on the physically unable to perform list.

Nine players were cut: Hocker, linebacker Everette Brown, offensive lineman Maurice Hurt, cornerback Chase Minnifield, safety Phillip Thomas, receiver Nick Williams and running backs Evan Royster, Lache Seastrunk and Chris Thompson.
