INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indianapolis promoted tight end Dominique Jones to the active roster and signed rookie tight end Justice Cunningham to the practice squad Tuesday.
The moves came shortly after the Colts traded rookie linebacker Caesar Rayford to the Dallas Cowboys for a conditional draft pick. Rayford led Indy with five sacks in the preseason.
Jones played in four games and made one catch last season with Indy but was waived Saturday.
Cunningham, the final pick in April's draft, was released Monday after Indy acquired linebacker Cam Johnson in a trade from San Francisco. Indy now has two "Mr. Irrelevants" on its practice squad -- Cunningham and quarterback Chandler Harnish.
Earlier Tuesday, Indy released rookie safety John Boyett, a sixth-round pick, one day after he was arrested on three charges including public intoxication.
According to a police report, Boyett ran away from the police when they tried to arrest him and repeatedly shouted that they couldn't arrest him because he was "a Colts player."
He also is accused of making fun of a police officer and threatening to come back and "break his jaw."
Boyett was on the non-football injury list as he tried to recover from injuries to both knees. He apologized to the police and the Colts on Twitter.
"I want to apologize to Mr. Irsay @JimIrsay , the Indianapolis Colts organization @Colts and the Indianapolis police," he wrote, referring to Indy's team owner. "The Colts gave me an opportunity and I blew it. My behavior didn't and doesn't represent who I am. I am deeply embarrassed and disappointed in myself. All I can do now is learn from it and never repeat it. I look forward to showing my true character in the future."
