San Francisco claimed the NFC berth in the title game with victories over Green Bay and Atlanta.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- One day after beating the New Jersey Devils on home ice, the Pittsburgh Penguins topped the Capitals 6-3 in Washington for their third straight win. Chris Kunitz (KOO'-nihts) scored the Penguins' last three goals of the game.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Phil Mickelson lost half of his six-shot lead over the opening nine holes of today's final round of the Phoenix Open. Mickelson was 1-under on the day when he walked off the ninth green. Playing partner Brandt Snedeker birdied the ninth to get to minus-4 on the day and continues to hold down second place.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- No. 23 Minnesota slipped past visiting Iowa 62-59 this afternoon. The Golden Gophers improve to 17-5.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Fifth-ranked Duke hammered No. 11 North Carolina 84-63, denying UNC's Sylvia Hatchell her 900th coaching victory. She's looking to become just the third coach in women's basketball to reach that plateau, behind Pat Summitt and Jody Conradt.
