NFL playoffs get going...No. 1 team has a game...One bowl game

HOUSTON (AP) -- The first of today's NFL playoff games is being played in Houston as the Texans are playing host to Cincinnati. The Bengals have won three in a row and seven of their last eight, while the Texans have dropped three of their last four.

GREEN BAY (AP) -- Today's second NFL playoff game has the Packers entertaining the Vikings. These two clubs met last week with the Vikes beating the Packers in Minneapolis. They split the two games they played this season.

UNDATED (AP) -- No. 1 Duke is in action today in men's top-25 basketball. The Blue Devils are hosting Wake Forest in an ACC game. In a game featuring two ranked schools, eighth-ranked Ohio State is entertaining No. 11 Illinois in a Big Ten encounter.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- In today's lone bowl game Mississippi is facing Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala. It takes six wins to qualify for a bowl game and each of these teams finished the season 6-6.

NEW YORK (AP) -- About 12 hours after discussions ended, a federal mediator was back at work in the middle of NHL labor talks that hit a snag earlier this week. Scot Beckenbaugh talked to the players' association this morning and is expected to also meet with the NHL.
