KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Scott Pioli (pee-OHL'-ee) is out as general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, and it looks like Andy Reid is in. Reid and the Chiefs have reportedly agreed to a deal giving the longtime Eagles coach broad authority over football decisions. Pioli's four seasons were marked by poor personnel decisions and failed coaching hires. The team fired Romeo Crennel on Monday after a 2-14 season that matched the worst record in team history.
CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Browns are set to interview Oregon coach Chip Kelly for their head coaching position. Kelly led the Ducks to a 35-17 win over Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl last night. Kelly has indicated he will meet with NFL teams about their openings, calling it a "fact-finding mission." In addition to Cleveland, the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles are also interested in Kelly. He says he hopes to have the process "wrapped up quickly."
NEW YORK (AP) -- The NHL and the union have been meeting separately with a federal mediator today. But so far, they have not set up a time to resume negotiations. The lockout is in its 111th day. Commissioner Gary Bettman has set a Jan. 11 deadline for a deal, which would allow for a 48-game season -- the minimum the NHL has said it will play.
ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) -- American skiing's next big star may be emerging. Seventeen-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin has earned her second World Cup win, taking a slalom today in Croatia by a massive 1.19-second margin. With the victory, Shiffrin regains the lead in the women's World Cup slalom standings.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Game-time temperatures are expected to be in the teens tomorrow evening when the Green Bay Packers host the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC playoffs. But don't expect the fabled tundra of Lambeau Field to be actually frozen. Lambeau has an underground heating system featuring a network of plastic pipes containing antifreeze that should keep the turf at 55 degrees even if the temperature dips to zero. The grounds crew will monitor conditions through temperature sensors in the field to ensure it remains playable.
