Nats fans stay hopeful in enemy territory

SAN FRANCISCO — With their team on the brink of elimination for a second straight night, Nats fans in AT&T Park remain confident. There aren’t many that have made the trip, but the ones that are here are representing nicely.

Chris made the trip from Syracuse just for these two games and feels pretty good: “I feel better than I did yesterday and I like the matchup with Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Vogelsong, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Chris decked out in Nats gear to support the club. The question is, has he gotten any “stuff” from Giants fans?

“A little bit yesterday after Harper’s home run. I stood up, was clapping and people gave it to me a little bit. I think it was more frustration than anything.”

He says he’s “very confident” that there will be a Game 5 in D.C. on Thursday,

Michael Adams flew in yesterday from Maryland for these two games and says he is confident he will be at a Game 5.

A season ticket holder since 2005 who sits in the Red Porch at Nats Park, he says he’s here representing that group tonight. His confidence is high — “I wouldn’t have come out here if it wasn’t.”

Good point.

Baseball is full of superstitions, and if you haven’t heard, the latest is from Nationals bullpen coach Matt LeCroy. When the Nats need a win, he eats a banana-mayo sandwich. It’s something he has eaten his entire life, and the team is now 8-0 when he eats the sandwich. Fans have superstitions too, right?

“No superstitions and absolutely I would not eat that sandwich,” Adams says. Even if it meant a win?

“OK, maybe I would.”

I think we may have something here.
