3 in critical condition, 1 serious after deadly school shooting

MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — Hospital officials say three of the victims of yesterday’s high school shootings in Washington state are in critical condition with head wounds.

Two of them are 14-year-old girls being treated at Providence Everett Medical Center, and the third is a 15-year-old boy at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Another 14-year-old is in serious condition at Harborview.

They were hurt and another girl was killed yesterday at Marysville-Pilchuck High School north of Seattle. Authorities say the shooter was a student who took his own life.

Marysville police haven’t released the suspect’s identity, but students have identified him as freshman Jaylen Fryberg, and a government official with direct knowledge of the shooting confirmed the identity to The Associated Press.

Students and parents say Fryberg was a well-liked member of a prominent family from the nearby Tulalip (too-LAY’-lihp) Indian tribes, who was introduced as a homecoming prince during a high school football game a week ago.

A handgun was recovered at the scene. The Seattle Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says it has traced “the most recent purchaser” of the gun but did not reveal who it was.
