KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee continues to rebuild its roster in the wake of a coaching transition with the additions of junior-college guard Devon Baulkman and IUPUI transfer Ian Chiles.
Chiles, a 6-foot-1 guard, said Tuesday he will go to Tennessee for his final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer. Chiles, who averaged 15.8 points per game for IUPUI this past season, said via text message that he plans to sign with Tennessee sometime Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Tennessee announced the signing of Baulkman, who spent the last two years at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida.
Their additions help refortify a roster that was decimated after a coaching change.
Cuonzo Martin left Tennessee to take over California's program on April 15 and was replaced by former Southern Mississippi coach Donnie Tyndall a week later. The four recruits who signed with the Volunteers in November when Martin was still at Tennessee were granted releases after the coaching change. Guard Darius Thompson and guard/forward A.J. Davis, who were freshmen at Tennessee this past season, requested releases from their scholarships.
Tyndall has refortified the roster by signing forward Jabari McGhee, guard Detrick Mostella and junior-college guard Kevin Punter this month. Baulkman represents the Vols' latest signing.
Baulkman, from Bainbridge, Georgia, is a 6-5 guard who averaged 15.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game this year. He plans to enroll at Tennessee this summer and has two years of eligibility remaining.
"Devon is another versatile, long, athletic guy that fits our system really well," Tyndall said in a university release. "He can play all three perimeter positions, and that versatility will allow him to contribute immediately to our team."
Baulkman initially signed with Southern Mississippi, but he was granted a release after Tyndall left for Tennessee.
Tennessee hasn't announced the addition of Chiles because his paperwork isn't completed. Chiles, who is from Louisville, Kentucky, averaged over 10 points per game each of his three seasons at IUPUI. He was IUPUI's leading scorer this past season.
