CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Film Festival is sponsoring a contest for high school filmmakers.

Festival officials say the winner of the third annual ACTION! High School Director Competition will receive a $1,000 prize. Two runners-up will receive $500 each.

The winning films will receive a special screening at the 2014 Virginia Film Festival, set for November in Charlottesville.

Students may submit applications as individual directors or as directing teams of no more than three. Films must be no more than six minutes long, be the original work of the students and include a relevant theme. Profanity, graphic violence and sexual content are not allowed.
