Va. Intermont given deadline to pay electric bill

Tuesday - 4/29/2014, 11:36am  ET

BRISTOL, Va. (AP) -- A utility is giving Virginia Intermont College until May 5 to pay its electric bill or lose the service.

The Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/1pJyDcP ) reports that the private, liberal arts college also has canceled plans to hold summer classes.

The BVU Authority board of directors voted unanimously Monday to continue electrical service to a higher education institution in Bristol, Va., until May 5.

The board declined to identify the institution or say how much is owed. Virginia Intermont spokeswoman Ann Yungmeyer confirmed to the newspaper that the school is the one that the BVU Authority board acted upon.

Yungmeyer told the newspaper that college officials hope to make a payment before the deadline so that electrical service can continue. Graduation is scheduled for May 4.
