Rutgers associate head coach Cox fired

Saturday - 3/15/2014, 12:54am  ET

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Eddie Jordan had already started reshaping his staff for his second season at Rutgers.

Less than 24 hours after the Scarlet Knights were embarrassed in a season-ending 61-point loss to Louisville, Jordan fired associate head coach David Cox.

The move was announced Friday night after the team returned from the American Athletic Conference tournament in Memphis, Tenn. Rutgers finished the season with a 12-21 record, including a 5-13 mark in conference play.

The Scarlet Knights will join the Big Ten next season.

Cox was one of two assistants who Jordan retained after being hired to replace Mike Rice, who was fired in the wake of scandal stemming from his abusive action in practice during his tenure.
