House Republicans to unveil education agenda

Tuesday - 1/14/2014, 7:01am  ET

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia House of Delegates Republicans are set to unveil their education agenda for the 2014 General Assembly.

Majority Leader Kirk Cox of Colonial Heights and other Republican lawmakers have scheduled a news conference Tuesday morning at the state Capitol. They will talk about their budget priorities for public elementary and secondary schools, as well as introduce legislation dealing with virtual classrooms and Standards of Learning reform.

The Republican lawmakers will be joined at the news conference by two Chesterfield County School Board members.

Education was a big issue last year, when the General Assembly passed former Gov. Bob McDonnell's A-to-F grading system for schools and his hotly debated plan to allow the state to take over chronically failing schools.
