NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- A 15-year-old is facing charges after he pulled out a toy gun at a Newport News technical education center.
Police say the student walked into a classroom at New Horizons Career and Technical Education Center just before 9 a.m. Monday with what appeared to be a handgun and made threats.
Officials later determined the gun was a fake.
A Newport News police officer who was working extra duty at the school arrested the unidentified student. He was charged with brandishing a firearm on school property, a felony that is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,500 fine.
