LOCUST GROVE, Va. (AP) -- The University of Mary Washington has transferred ownership of the historic Fort Germanna site in Orange County to a foundation.
The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/18Pa85d ) reports that the university's board voted Saturday to transfer ownership of the property to the Memorial Foundation of the Germanna Colonies in Virginia. The university had owned the site since 1990.
The property includes Enchanted Castle, the 18th century home of Colonial Gov. Alexander Spotswood.
University officials stopped archaeological work at the site in 1995 due to a lack of resources and changing priorities.
