A southeastern Pennsylvania school board confirms that two former high-ranking administrators traded racist and sexist text messages on their district-issued phones.

The Coatesville Area School Board said Monday afternoon that it told Superintendent Richard Como and high school athletic director Jim Donato they would be fired over the messages. Both administrators chose to resign instead.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan calls the messages "shockingly racist."

Como didn't return a phone message seeking comment. Donato couldn't be located.

The school board's statement says it is working with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission to provide mandatory sensitivity training to board members, administrators, staff and faculty. It's also asking the commission to review the school district's diversity policy and code of conduct.
