WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The College of William and Mary has set a record for private giving at the school.
The college says it received cash or commitments of donations totaling more $104.3 million for the fiscal year that ended June 30. The previous record for total giving came in 2005 and was for $101.65 million.
The Williamsburg school made the announcement on Thursday.
School officials say more donors also participated during fiscal year 2013 than any other in the college's history. More than 31,000 individuals, corporations and foundations made gifts to William and Mary during the fiscal year.
Matthew Lambert, the school's vice president for university development, says individual gifts of $250 or less brought in $2.93 million.
