Christian host families devastated at girls' deaths in plane crash

Monday - 7/8/2013, 9:50pm  ET

WEST HILLS, Calif. (AP) -- The families preparing to host the Chinese girls who died in Saturday's airliner crash in San Francisco are "devastated," according to the administrator of West Valley Christian School.

Derek Swales says the two teenage victims were part of a group that had been scheduled to arrive Monday at the school in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley after spending the weekend touring the San Francisco Bay Area.

He says the surviving students will return to their families in China instead of attending the scheduled three-week camp.

They were to have studied English and American culture with their Christian hosts in the mornings and to have toured local universities and gone sightseeing in the afternoons.

Swales says the families that planned to host them may take part in a prayer vigil Thursday at West Valley Christian Church.
