UM law school deal won't seek contract renewal

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The dean of the University of Maryland Carey School of Law says she will not seek to renew her contract.

Phoebe A. Haddon made the announcement on Friday to the law school faculty. She says she will step down at the end of the 2013-2014 academic year.

Haddon says she will take a sabbatical and then return to the law faculty and to teaching.

Haddon was named dead in 2009. Her 5-year contract will expire next year.

The dean helped secure a $30 million gift to the law school from the W. P. Carey Foundation, which led to the renaming of the school.

Before becoming dean, Haddon served for more than 25 years on the faculty at Temple University Beasley School of Law in Philadephia.
