WASHINGTON (AP) -- The mother of a District of Columbia elementary school student has accused a police officer of abusing her son in school.
The lawsuit from Chante Price accuses the officer of slamming the boy's head on a cafeteria table inside Moten Elementary School at Wilkinson last April.
The suit says the officer, David E. Bailey Jr., visited the school as part of his patrol and became irate at the child, who was then 10, while lecturing him and others about behaving in class.
The suit says the officer grabbed the child by the back of the head and slammed his head forward onto the table.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement that "criminal charges were declined in this matter" and that police officers are entitled to due process.
