WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro and the D.C. Department of Transportation are offering a new way for District of Columbia students to buy bus passes at Giant food stores.
A new pilot program announced Friday will allow students to buy a 10-trip bus pass closer to their neighborhoods or schools. The program begins Monday and will run through July 1.
Four Giant stores will participate in the program. Two are located in northwest Washington. One is in northeast Washington, and one is in southeast Washington.
In order to purchase a pass, students must present their D.C. One Card and have at least one remaining bus trip on an existing pass. Students with a D.C. One Card receive reduced fares on Metrorail, bus and Circulator service when traveling to and from school.
