CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia defensive tackle Chris Brathwaite had been declared ineligible and is no longer enrolled at the university.
Cavaliers coach Mike London made the announcement Wednesday. He says he is disappointed, but that Brathwaite "did not make the commitment he needed to succeed off the football field."
The sophomore from Brooklyn, N.Y., emerged as perhaps Virginia's most disruptive lineman in 2012. He appeared in all 12 games as a reserve and led all defensive tackles with 41 tackles and also led the entire defense with 10 tackles for a loss.
London says if the time comes when Brathwaite can rejoin the program, "he must do so with great enthusiasm for the things that we expect and require of our student-athletes."
