DARRINGTON, Wash. (AP) - The embattled superintendent of the Darrington School District has agreed to resign, a year and a half after another school manager died of a cocaine overdose in his house.

KOMO News reports that ( Larry Johnson will resign on April 30 under a settlement with the Darrington School Board. Under the settlement, Johnson will drop a lawsuit against the district and in return his contract will be bought out, among other monetary settlements.

Parents called for Johnson's firing after district after finance manager Myra Lewis collapsed of a cocaine overdose in Johnson's home in October 2010. She died soon afterward at an Everett hospital.

Police cleared him of wrongdoing, though it was revealed Johnson was having an affair with Lewis. In March, a hearing officer ruled that Johnson should be reinstated to his job, because the district did not establish sufficient cause for termination.
