Gun at high school: 2 WA students detained

Tuesday - 4/3/2012, 9:12pm  ET

KENT, Wash. (AP) - A King County sheriff's spokeswoman says two male high school students accused of showing off a handgun to other students have been detained.

Sgt. Cindi West says deputies responded Tuesday after a call from Kentlake High School officials. Deputies found that a 16-year-old with a gun in his backpack reportedly got the weapon from a 17-year-old. West says the 17-year-old told officers he took the gun from his aunt's house in Eastern Washington _ without her knowledge _ when he visited recently.

The spokeswoman says there were no reports of threats. It wasn't immediately clear why the gun was brought to school.

Kent School District spokesperson Chris Loftis tells KING-TV that multiple students told school officials about the loaded gun.
