WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is asking top congressional leaders from both parties to meet with him after the election.

The White House says Obama invited House and Senate leaders from both parties to a meeting at the White House on Friday afternoon.

It’ll be the first chance for both parties to plot a way forward after the dust settles from the midterms.

The White House says Obama was watching the midterm results from the White House and calling House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates from both parties.

The election results will have a profound impact on Obama’s ability to carry out his agenda during his final two years in office. Republicans have already vowed to use their gains in the election to mount aggressive efforts to roll back Obama’s agenda.
