WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department is promising to cooperate with the House select committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attack.

In a letter to the panel, Assistant Secretary of State Julia Frifield says the department feels relevant questions have been answered about the attack in the Libyan city that killed four Americans.

But she says officials want to work with lawmakers. Secretary of State John Kerry has directed department staff to brief the committee and discuss issues such as document production.

A copy of the letter was obtained by The Associated Press.

Republicans say the department hasn’t handed over all correspondence related to Benghazi. They say U.S. officials failed to respond quickly enough to the attack, then misled Americans about what happened to help President Barack Obama win re-election. Democrats reject such assertions.
