TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A foundation created in memory of a 9-year-old girl killed in a 2011 shooting rampage at an Arizona political gathering is shutting down after giving away nearly $1 million.

The Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation has provided funding for dozens of local projects. The Arizona Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/1d78G1F ) the projects included grief-support programs, services for homeless students and a new school playground.

Christina-Taylor was one of six people killed in the shooting outside a Tucson supermarket where then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was meeting with constituents

The girl's father, John Green, says the foundation provided a way to ensure she was remembered in the community. Roxanna Green says the foundation's work helped her heal after her daughter's death.

But the Greens say the foundation was time-consuming, and they're shutting it down to spend more time as a family.
