WASHINGTON (AP) -- The House Ethics Committee is extending an investigation into possible ethics violations by Democrat Tim Bishop of New York.
The panel does not identify the reasons for the investigation. It says the extension does not indicate any violation has occurred.
Bishop was the focus of complaints last year when he helped get fireworks permits for a bar mitzvah. The request came from a businessman who later donated $5,000 to Bishop's campaign.
Bishop's opponent questioned whether that violated House ethics rules, and Bishop wound up donating that amount to veterans' groups.
The committee says it received a referral last month from the independent Office of Congressional Ethics. The panel will announce its next course of action by Sept. 11.
