US bans entry to Hungarian corruption suspects

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The United States has issued entry bans to several Hungarians suspected of corruption, including people connected to the government.

U.S. Embassy charge d’affairs Andre Goodfriend said that “under 10” people are affected, though “the numbers could change.” The identities of those subject to the bans were not released.

On Friday, Goodfriend was summoned by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry for a meeting on the issue and he said he met Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto earlier this week to inform him about the bans and their background.

The Foreign Ministry said it asked the United States to hand over any information about suspected cases of corruption so they could be investigated.
