Investigation continues in Wyoming hospital crash

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The investigation continued Monday into a car crash that killed two people at a Casper, Wyoming, hospital.

Capt. Steve Freel of the Casper Police Department said Monday that Brandon Avery and Amanda Strickland, both 27, died in Sunday’s crash at the Wyoming Medical Center.

Freel declined to release the name of an underage girl who remains hospitalized at the medical center after the wreck. Freel said she’s in stable condition and declined to give her age beyond saying that she’s under 18.

“We honestly do not know right now what the cause of the accident was,” Freel said Monday afternoon.

Initial reports stated police believed the girl was driving the car but Freel said it’s unclear who was driving.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported (http://bit.ly/1ymtOKU ) the green Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling east on Second Street, which runs past the hospital, when it crashed into the facility shortly before 7 p.m.

The car was heavily damaged when it hit a pillar on the hospital building.

No hospital staff members were hurt. The crash shut down part of the road in both directions.

Freel said it’s unclear whether the car was traveling to the hospital to bring someone there for emergency medical treatment.

The investigation will look at toxicology of the people involved, measurements of the scene and condition of the vehicle, Freel said.

Freel said toxicology tests are routine in investigating such accidents. “We’re not saying we expect it was a portion of it, but it’s an area we have to look at,” he said.
