LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Six candidates — all from Europe — are in the running to replace Princess Haya of Jordan as president of the International Equestrian Federation.
The federation, known as the FEI, says that six men declared their candidacies by Tuesday’s deadline: Pierre Genecand of Switzerland, Ulf Helgstrand of Denmark, John McEwen of Britain, Javier Revuelta del Peral of Spain, Pierre Durand of France and FEI secretary general Ingmar De Vos of Belgium.
Princess Haya announced last month that she had decided not to seek a third four-year term, citing family reasons and her relief work in Gaza.
The election will be held on Dec. 14 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
