Court awards $1.3 million over canceled contract

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Court of Claims has awarded a government services firm $1.3 million after the state canceled its contract with 99 percent of the work done.

At issue was a $53 million contract between the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Dynamics Research Corp. to develop a child-welfare information system in 2004.

The Court of Claims on Friday ordered the payment following a 2010 lawsuit by Dynamics Research challenging the amount of its final payment after the state terminated the contract a year earlier.

A judge awarded the company $282,595 at trial but the Franklin County Court of Appeals ordered a recalculation, which the court of claims set at $1.3 million.

Dynamics Research, formerly of Massachusetts, was acquired by northern Virginia-based Engility Holdings, Inc., earlier this year.
