WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says the removal of chemical weapons from Syria will ensure they'll never be used against the Syrian people, Americans or U.S. partners around the world.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest is applauding the international coalition that on Monday completed what he called an extraordinary mission. But he also says the world won't forget those who died in chemical attacks in Syria.
Earnest says in addition to more than 1,000 tons of chemical materials, officials have verified that Syria's chemical production, mixing and filling equipment has been destroyed. He says all delivery vehicles for the weapons, like missiles and bombs, have also been destroyed.
Earnest says materials carried out of Syria by the U.S.-owned MV Cape Ray will be destroyed in the safest, most environmentally sound manner.
